Verse:

لِكُلٍّ وِجْهَةٌ هُوَ مُوَلِّيها فَاسْتَبِقُوا الْخَيْراتِ أَيْنَ ما تَكُونُوا يَأْتِ بِكُمُ اللهُ جَميعاً إِنَّ أللهَ عَلى كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَديرٌ

Translation:

Any ummah (nation) has a Kiblah (direction in which Muslims pray toward it) which God has appointed (and instead of conversing about Kiblah) take advantage in goodness and good deeds. Anywhere you be, God will gather all of you (at judgmental day); since he is capable of doing anything.

Sura Baqare, verse 148

Tabarsi in Majma-ol-baya’n knows the revelation of this verse in Medina. Ibn-e-ba’bouye with 6 mediator narrated from Abou-kha’led ka’boli and he narrated from Imam Sajjad (AS): it is revealed about 313 men of missing people of Badr war and also Ibn-e-ba’bouye with 7 mediators narrated from Mofazal-ibn-e-omar and he narrated from Imam Sadeq (AS): This verse is about companions of promised Mahdi (AJ).

In the same way Mohammad-ibn-e-yaghoub koleyni narrated from Ali-ibn-e-ibrahim and he has narrated from his father that with 4 mediators, Imam Sadeq (AS) stated: ((the verse فَاسْتَبِقُوا الْخَيْراتِ أَيْنَ ما تَكُونُوا يَأْتِ بِكُمُ اللهُ جَميعاً is about companions of Qa’em from Al-e-Mohammad(family of prophet Mohammad PH) (AJ) who are 313 persons and in a same determined time after appearance of him (Mahdi AJ) will be gathered in a same place.

Hoseyni sha’h-abd-ol-azimi in Tafsir athna’ ashari by narrating from Tafsir borha’n, narrated some Hadiths from Imams (AS) specialy Imam Sadeq (AS) that the instance of the verse are companions of Qa’em from Al-e-Mohammad(family of prophet Mohammad PH) (AJ) who will be gathered from all around the earth by the side of Imam (Zaman AJ).

Also in Ka’fi it is narrated from Imam Sadeq (AS) that he stated: ((the word of God, فَاسْتَبِقُوا الْخَيْراتِ, its meaning are goodness of Velayat (Guardnership) and the part أَيْنَ ما تَكُونُوا يَأْتِ بِكُمُ اللهُ جَميعاً speaks of companions of Qa’em who are 313 persons; swear to God they are a counted community, swear to God they will be gathered in a same time by the side of Imam (Zaman AJ).

Sura Baqare, verse 148

Thaghafi tehrani in Rava’n ja’vid has another elaboration of this verse. He has written any tribe and nation has a religion that God in surface and from interior which means in heart and in appearance directed their attention toward it; as so in Islam it is commanded to irect your attention to Kaaba. So Muslims should not let uncertainty come in their minds; but also they should be thankful that got dependent in Kiblah (direction in which Muslims pray toward it) and religion and their religion has become abolisher of previous religions. So they should take advantage from each other in all good deeds, which the best of them is prayer, and they should know that anywhere they be and any good deeds they do when they die God will gather them and their deeds in Judgmental day and will reward any person according to their deeds since God is capable of doing anything. These concepts are the surface of the verse but in reports from Ahl-e-bayt (family of Prophet Mohammad PH) (AS) it is interpreted to companions of Imam Zaman (AJ) in his advent era God will gather them. In Majma, Aya’shi it has narrated from Imam Reza (AS): ((when our Qa’em revolts, God will gather all of our Shias from all countries.)) and in Ekma’l-ol-din, Aya’shi it has narrated from Imam Sadeq (AS): ((verily this verse is revealed about companions of our Qa’em (Aj) and some of them will rise from their beds at night and at the morning they are present at Mecca and some other in the day move with clouds; we know them with name and reputation and descent and lineage.))

Sura Baqare, verse 148

In Tafsir atyab-ol-tebya’n by Seyyed abd-ol-hoseyn tayyeb it is written about the verse أَيْنَ ما تَكُونُوا يَأْتِ بِكُمُ اللهُ جَميعاً, the surface of the verse is about gathering people at Judgmental day which is یوم الجمع (gathering day); but in many reports from Imams (AS) it is stated that the sentence refers to gathering special companions of Imam Mahdi (AJ) from all around the earth to revolt along him, as in Tafsir Aya’shi it is narrated from Imam Sadeq(AS) that he stated:

((نزلت‌ ‌هذه‌ الاية ‌في‌ اصحاب‌ القائم‌ و انّهم‌ المفتقدون‌ ‌من‌ فرشهم‌ ليلا فيصبحون‌ بمكّة و بعضهم‌ يسير ‌في‌ السحاب‌ نهارا نعرف‌ اسمه‌ و اسم‌ ابيه‌ و حليته‌ و نسبه» قَالَ فَقُلْتُ: جُعِلْتُ فِدَاکَ أَیُّهُمْ أَعْظَمُ إِیمَاناً؟ قَالَ: الَّذِی یَسِیرُ فِی السَّحَابِ نَهَاراً.

This verse was revealed about unknown companions of Qa’em (AJ). The blessed and exalted God stated: ((أَيْنَ ما تَكُونُوا يَأْتِ بِكُمُ اللهُ جَميعاً)) They a night will get disappeared from the carpet of their home and at the morning they will be in Mecca. Some of them (also, in that day) move on the clouds and everyone know their fathers’ names and their descent and lineage.)) I said: ((which of the two group are superior in faith?)) He stated: ((the group who moves at day on the clouds.)) This narration is written by Majlesi in volume 52 of Beha’r-ol-anva’r and by Sadough in second volume of Kama’l-ol-din.

Of course we know that meaning is not in disagreement with publicity of words and multiplicity of instances.

In some of reports it is said that the meaning of gathering all Shias is advent of Imam Mahdi (AJ); as in Tafsir Aya’shi and Majma-ol-baya’n by Tabarsi it is narrated from Imam Reza (AS) that he stated:

)) ‌ذلک‌ و اللّه‌ ‌ان‌ ‌لو‌ قام‌ قائمنا يجمع‌ اللّه‌ جميع‌ شيعتنا ‌من‌ جميع‌ البلدان‌، ان‌ّ اللّه‌ ‌علي‌ ‌کل‌ شي‌ء قدير

Swear to God when the revolution of our Qa’em happens God will gather all of our Shias from all over the world that verily God is capable of doing anything.))

Tafsir Al-sa’fi, first volume, and tafsir borha’n has narrated 12 reports from Imams (AS) about this issue and in Montakhab-ol-athar more than 20 reports about it, is narrated.

Sura Baqare, verse 148

In volume 51 of Beha’r-ol-anva’r, second volume of Kama’l-ol-din by Sadough, Kefa’yat-ol-athar, Montakhab-al-anva’r-el-moziya and Tafsir noor-ol-thaghaleyn it is narrated from Abd-ol-azim who narrated from Imam Javad(AS) that: ((equal to the number of Muslims in Badr war who were 313 persons, will gather around him (Imam Zaman AJ) and this holy verse is also about this happening: أَيْنَ ما تَكُونُوا يَأْتِ بِكُمُ اللهُ جَميعاً إِنَّ أللهَ عَلى كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَديرٌ

Anytime this community (who are pure people) would be provided for him and 10 thousands warrior would be gathered under a flag, God will disclose his matter and give him permission to revolt. Also Nama’ni in Al-gheybat narrated from Imam Sadeq (AS): ((swear to God 313 persons who 50 women are among them like parts of clouds in autumn (which are fragmented and small and fasten to each other) will gather in holy Mecca without predetermined appointment that a group of them will come with another group; as God states: ((أَيْنَ ما تَكُونُوا يَأْتِ بِكُمُ اللهُ جَميعاً إِنَّ أللهَ عَلى كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَديرٌ. At that moment a man from Prophet Mohammad (PH)’s dynasty will say: ((this city Mecca) has oppressor people.)) Then Imam Zaman (AJ) and those 313 persons who swear allegiance will exit Mecca.)) In volume 52 of Beha’r-ol-anva’r Abi-somayye has narrated that he has asked Imam Kazem (AS) about the interpretation of this verse, Imam (AS) stated: ((swear to God! If our Qa’em appears, God will gather our Shias from all cities around him)). Sheykh tousi in AL-gheybat has written this narration with a bit change. He narrated from Imam Sadeq(AS): ((people always slacken (from viewpoint of faith) until no name of God will be called. When the condition will be so, like the queen of honeybees bites (and makes unrest among honeybees, Imam Zaman (AJ) will appear) and God will rise a community around Imam Zaman (AJ) who like pieces of fragmented autumn clouds will gather around each other. Swear to God! I, in fact, recognize their names, nations and their leader; while they were a community that God determined in a way that he will move one man, two men, until 9 men (toward Mecca), after dawn, 313 persons as the number of Badr (war) people (will come while their number) is perfected and this a divine word: ((أَيْنَ ما تَكُونُوا يَأْتِ بِكُمُ اللهُ جَميعاً إِنَّ أللهَ عَلى كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَديرٌ. And in this way God will reach that man (companion of Imam Zaman (AJ)) while he is sitting and constricted his feet and hands, in this very condition and so fast will reach him to Imam Zaman (AJ).))

Abd-ol-aala’ halabi has narrated from Imam Bagher(AS): ((swear to God! This the word of Ali-ibn-e-abita’leb that stated: (( (the companion of Imam Zaman (AJ) at the moment of advent of Imam Zaman (AJ) and to reach to him) will be disappeared from his bed (and will go by the side of Imam Zaman (AJ)) and this is the word of God: ((فَاسْتَبِقُوا الْخَيْراتِ أَيْنَ ما تَكُونُوا يَأْتِ بِكُمُ اللهُ جَميعاً.)) the companions of Imam Zaman (AJ) are 300 and some persons. swear to God! They are the definite community who God has mentioned in his book: ((and if delay punishing them until a limited time.)) (Sura Houd, verse 8) (They) will gather like rainy clouds of autumn in one hour.))
