Sura Baqare, verse 155

Translation:

And verily we test you with some hardships like fear and hunger and decreasing of wealth and people and pest of agriculture; and give good news to tolerant

Sura Baqare, verse 155

Explanation of the verse:

Thaghafi tehra’ni in first volume of Tafsir rava’n ja’vid about this verse has written: it means we afflict you like someone who is testing you that you tolerate calamities and yield to divine certain, or no and the reward of the ones who tolerate calamities is paradise which is promised or affinity to the upright (God) with details mentioned in the more previous verse. And it is in Nahj-il-bala’ghe that: God afflicts his servants, when they commit sins, with diminish in products and lock up of blessings and block of doors of good things in order to abandon carnalities and return from sins and remember God and repent. And in Ekma’l-ol-din it is narrated from Imam Sadeq (AS) that narrates: ((this is one of traces and signs of advent of Qaem (AJ) that God will test faithful (persons) with fear of a king of Bani-omayye (the family of Omayye) at the end of their(of Bani-omayye (the family of Omayye)’s) government and with hunger due to costliness of exchanges and with diminish in wealth because of corruption in trade and insufficiency of profit and loss in lives due to continuous deaths and with decrease in harvest  because of insufficiency of fruits  and give good news of advent of Qaem (AJ) to tolerant (persons) when these signs are happening. This is the interpretation of this holy verse that no one knows it unless God and invincible (persons) in knowledge who are chaste Imams (AS). Seyyed abd-ol-huseyn tayyeb in second volume of Tafsir atyab-ol-tebya’n has written: in some reports it is said that the verse is about the era before advent of Qaem (AJ). In those reports it has been specified that this interpretation of the verse is not a reason for being exclusive of the verse and its inclusiveness remains; but because the addressee are faithful (persons), infidels and contumacious are not among addressees.

Explanation of the verse:

Nama’ni in Al-gheybat, Aya’shi in Tafsir Aya’shi and also Majlesi in volume 52 of Beha’r-ol-anva’r narrate a hadith from Imam Baqer (AS) about this verse which addressed Ja’ber: ((O Ja’ber! The meaning of this verse is specific and general. Its specific (meaning) is the hunger which God in kufa makes to happen for enemies of family of Prophet (PH) and kills them through it and its general (meaning) is in Damascus that people have such a fear and hunger that until that day have never seen like that. The hunger of people of Damascus is before the revolution of Qaem(AJ) and their fear is after his advent.)) Majlesi in same volume of Beha’r-ol-anva’r has narrated another Imam Sadeq (AS) also that: ((لنبلوکم)) (verily we test you) means we (verily) test you (believers) before advent of Imam Zaman (AJ). This hadith is narrated by Sheykh sadough in volume 2 of Kama’l-ol-din too. In Beha’r-ol-anva’r and also in Al-gheybat by Nama’ni another narration of Imam Sadeq (AS) is narrated which is noticeable. before the revolution of Qaem(AJ), inevitably, there must be a year which in that year people get hungry and due to war, decreasing of wealth and lives products, fear a lot; this issue is mentioned in book pf God: ((وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُمْ بِشَيْءٍ مِنَ الْخَوْفِ وَالْجُوعِ وَنَقْصٍ مِنَ الْأَمْوَالِ وَالْأَنْفُسِ وَالثَّمَرَاتِ وَبَشِّرِ الصَّابِرِينَ

(And verily we test you with some hardships like fear and hunger and decreasing of wealth and people and pest of agriculture; and give good news to tolerant.)

In volume 3 of Al-khara’yej v-al-jara’yeh, volume 74, second volume of Kama’l-ol-din, Montakhab-al-anva’r-ol-moziat, Ala’m-ol-vora’ and… it is narrated from Imam Sadeq (AS) that: ((good news for tolerant, is good news of Faraj (comfort after advent of Imam Zaman AJ) )).
