The twelfth sermon of Nahjul Balagha The summary of the sermon:

. Imam Ali (AS) in this part, invited people and warriors to Jihad (fighting in the way of God) and being stable against the enemies of Islam

. insisting on the significance of standing up against the ones who seek sedition and destroy of Islamic society

. Imam (AS) blamed the ones who fear war and fight and invited them to bravery and courage

. stating the point that fear and indolence causes weakness and failure

. Imam (AS) referred to threats of enemies and made Muslims aware of these risks

. insisting on the point that enemies in the case of laxity of Muslims will use these opportunities

. Imam (AS) insisted on the necessity of unity and affinity among Muslims and forewarns them of dispersion and disagreement

. referring to the point that unity and solidarity are the keys of victory over enemies

The purpose of the sermon:

The main reason of performing the 12th sermon, is to encourage Muslims to Jihad (fight for the sake of God), bravery and unity against enemies. The main aims of this sermon are including:

Encouraging to Jihad (fight for the sake of God) and being firm: he invited Muslims to Jihad (fight) in the way of God and being stable against enemies and remembers them that, fear and indolence will cause failure.

 

Standing up against inner and outer enemies: he pointed out to dangers of enemies and made Muslims aware of their threats. He wanted people be conscious about these threats and avoid any kind of indolence against them.

 

Blaming the fear and indolence: he, in this sermon, severely blamed the fear and laxity among Muslims and encouraged them to bravery and being firm against enemies.

 

Insisting on unity and solidarity: Imam (AS) wanted to remember people that, unity and affinity are the only way of victory over enemies and dispersion causes weakness and failure.

 

This sermon was performed to improve the spirit of warriors, encourage to resist against enemies and maintaining the unity in the Islamic society.

 

The chosen sentences:

. do fear of leaving your enemies on their own; since fearing from death, is (equal to) death and bravery is (equal to) life.

. anyone who bows down against oppression and outburst, he/she puts the collar of slavery on his/her neck.

. unity is the weapon which is effective against any enemy. Do avoid dispersion which makes you weak.

. your enemies are lying in ambush; in case of (your) neglect, they will attack to the flock like a wolf.
