The third sermon of Nahj al-Balagha

This sermon was performed at the age of Imam Ali (AS)’s Caliphate and for people of Kufa; in order to they gain deeper understanding of the meaning of the religion and Tawhid (monotheism). Imam Ali (AS) in this sermon, managed to enlighten the characteristics of God, the creation, the role of Human being, inviting to thinking and reasoning and remembering the Dooms day. This sermon, was performed to increase the religious and moral awareness of people and assisted the amendment of Islamic society.

 

The reason of performing the third sermon of Nahj-ol-balaqe refers to some key factors; including:

1.enlightening the Tawhid (monotheism): Imam Ali (AS) introduced and described God and his characteristics in order to make people to have better cognition of unique God.

 

2.awareness-raising: with regarding the social and religious challenges of that time, Imam (AS) wanted to invite people to think about the creation and the signs of God.

 

3.the role of Human being: Imam (AS) pointed out to humanitarian responsibilities toward God and society and wanted that any person, play his/her role for amendment and construction.

 

4.remembering of the Dooms day: the sermon spoke of the Dooms day and reward and penalty (caused) by deeds in order to encourage people to avoid the sins and do good deeds.

 

5.reinforcing the Faith: another purpose of Imam (AS), was reinforcing the faith of Muslims against the seditions and social and political aberrations.
