The Seventeenth Sermon of Nahjul Balagha

describing the characteristics of people who are committed to the Right and justice

 

. mentioning the traits of the people of the Truth to the people of insight, faith, good deed and deeds according to principles of the religion

 

. blaming the ones who followed lusts and distanced from the way of the Right

 

. pointing out to seduction of this world and its deceives

 

. inviting Muslims to alertness and avoiding materialism

 

. advising to (have) piety, resistance against hardships, importance of patience and endurance in the way of God

 

 

The time of performing the sermon:

In primary years of Caliphate between years 36 and 38 A.H.

 

 

The audiences of the sermon:

The publicity of Muslims

 

 

The purpose of the sermon:

Imam Ali (AS) performed this sermon to warn people about seduction of this world, deviation from the way of the Right and inclination toward materialism.

The other purpose, was to encourage Muslims to stability in the way of the Right by thinking about this world and the other world issues for living according to justice-oriented values.

In this way, he strived to correct the behavioral and social deviations and invited them to (have) piety and faith.

 

 

The chosen sentences:

. O people! Do know this world seduces you; what remains from this world, is nothing except sadness and regret.

 

. do assist the Right; even if the hardships overcome you. Because the Right is victorious and the people of void are destructible

 

. do not get seduced by this world, since it is like a mirage; as much as you get closer to it, your thirst will get more.

 

. the patience is the key of resolution and endurance in the way of the Right, is the sign of the Faith.
