The summary of second sermon would be distributed as so:

 

social and political situation

. problems and challenges of Islamic society

inviting to (have) piety

. the importance of (having) piety in individual and social life

. insist on morality and good behavior

 

the role and responsibility of individuals

. the responsibility of any individual in correction of the society

. the necessity cooperation and integrity

. the significance of awareness in fronting with seditions

. the call for (gaining) knowledge and knowing the right and the void

 

solidity of the Faith

. reinforcing the faith against challenges

. the remembrance of promises of God

 

This sermon was performed at the era of his (Imam Ali AS’s) Caliphate and for the people of Kufa. Imam Ali (AS) in this sermon spoke about the problems and challenges of Islamic society and insisted on the necessity of amendment and integrity between Muslims.  He invited people to (have) piety and awareness against corruption and seditions and pointed out to the role of any person in the correction of the society.

 

The reason of performing the second sermon of Nahj-ol-balaqe refers to some main factors; including:

1.critical situation of the Islamic society: at that time, the Islamic society was encountering with social and political challenges and disagreements. Imam Ali (AS) insisted on the necessity of paying attention to these issues and correcting the situation.

 

2.inviting to (have) piety and morality: with regarding the social and behavioral corruptions, Imam (AS) wanted to invite people to (have) piety and observing morality in order to avoid social harms.

 

3.the importance of awareness and foresight: Imam (AS) insisted on the necessity of awareness and the cognition of facts in order to Muslims can stand against seditions and aberrations.

 

4.encouraging to (be) integrated: with regarding the factions which existed in the society, Imam (AS) called for unity and integrity of Muslims in order to they can stand against challenges, collectively.

 

5.enlightening the individual role: Imam (AS) wanted to know any person as responsible and remember to him/her that she/he should fight for amendment of the society.

 

The purpose of this sermon, as a social political declaration, was to increase the awareness and accountability among Muslims.

These sentences of the second sermon have been more paid attention to:

1.inviting to (have) piety:

O people! Do have piety, which is your best provision.

 

2.the importance of knowledge and awareness:

The best of you is the one who gains knowledge and teach it to others.

 

3.social responsibility:

Anyone who remains silent against corruption, is associated to it.

 

4.remebering the unity:

Be with each other and put the disagreements, aside.

 

5.the role of individuals in amendment of the society:

You are responsible and you should endeavor for the correction and development of the society.

 

These sentences convey the key concepts of the sermon, properly and show the attitude of Imam Ali (AS) to social and political issues.
