At primary years of Caliphate between the years 36 and 37 A.H.; before intensification of inner quarrels
The audiences of the sermon:
the publicity of Muslims; specially the elites of the society and the people who may be affected by the glamour of this world or its disagreements.
The purpose of the sermon:
. warning about the deceive of this world: Imam Ali (AS) performed this sermon with the purpose of making people awake from neglect and avoiding them from getting caught in the trap of this world deceives.
. encouraging to (observe) the piety and stability: he invited Muslims to observe piety and maintaining the divine values in order to avoid them from falling in sin and this age sedition.
. insisting on unity and cohesion: performing the sermon was to reinforce the coordination among Muslims and avoiding the dispersion; since supposed the consequences of disagreement, dangerous.
. remembering the history and taking advice: Imam (AS) wanted to invite them from repeating their past mistakes.
The chosen sentences:
. this world is like a shadow which soon will pass; lest suppose it as a purpose for yourself.
. do take advice from the ones who were before you; how this world deceived them and avoided them from the right.
. piety is a shield which keeps you from te deadly arrows of seditions.
. any time there is dispersion among you, your enemies will prevail you.
